Outreach
Throughout our half-century of windows and energy-efficiency research, we've been firmly dedicated to supporting and informing industry; providing important research and data to policymakers; providing better windows, glazing and envelopes in the U.S. and worldwide; and pushing forth the mission of the Department of Energy.
Bringing Research into Practice
Through collaboration and scientific advancement, the Windows Group has made significant strides in enabling the development of energy-efficient window technologies like low-emissivity window coating, leading industry software tools, and dynamically tinting "smart windows."
Every year, Americans reduce energy bills by billions thanks to a low-emissivity (low-e) window coating that Berkeley Lab developed with industry. Once a novelty, it is now the market standard for efficient windows.
