Complex Glazing Database (CGDB)

Overview

The LBNL WINDOW and THERM simulation programs (versions 6 and higher) have the capability to model "complex glazing systems" which include woven shades, venetian blinds, fritted glass, and other systems that can be characterized by BSDF (Bi-Directional Scattering Distribution Function) files.

To support the modeling of these complex systems, it is necessary to characterize the optical and thermal properties of the materials and the systems being modeled.

The Complex Glazing Database (CGDB) contains the data needed to model various manufacturers' systems.

LBNL is in the process of developing the measuring and submittal procedures so that manufacturers can submit measured data for review and inclusion in future CGDB releases. When these procedures are complete, it is hoped that manufacturers will measure and submit data for their products to LBNL for inclusion in the CGDB. In a similar process to the IGDB (International Glazing Database) it is envisioned that the CGDB will be released multiple times per year as new materials and systems are measured and added to the database.

Fritted Glass Data Submittals

Currently LBNL is not accepting fritted glass into the CGDB because the measurements that were done on frits in the latest inter-laboratory comparison did not agree very well. Furthermore we know that there are systematic errors in those measurements using standard equipment used for specular glass. LBNL is currently not funded to work on frits so progress on getting a process in place is very slow, and we do not know when it will be done.


The latest version of the CGDB is only currently available for WINDOW 7.4.8 (and later versions). Previous versions of the CGDB are available for both WINDOW 7.3 and WINDOW 6.3


Version 8.0 for WINDOW 7.4

CGDB version 8.0 for WINDOW 7.4.8 contains new Venetian blind products for ODL (see the Release Notes). It also includes all the products in the previous versions.  Most of the measurements performed by LBNL have BSDF XML files associated with them, which must be available to the WINDOW program in order to simulate the systems.

This version of the CGDB is only compatible with WINDOW 7.4.


Version 7.0 for WINDOW 7.4

CGDB version 7.0 for WINDOW 7.4.8 contains new Venetian blind products for ODL (see the Release Notes). It also includes all the products in the previous versions.  Most of the measurements performed by LBNL have BSDF XML files associated with them, which must be available to the WINDOW program in order to simulate the systems.

This version of the CGDB is only compatible with WINDOW 7.4.


Version 6.1 for WINDOW 7.4 (and 7.3)

CGDB version 6.1 for WINDOW 7.4.6 (including versions from 7.3.8 to 7.4) contains woven shade products as well as a few replacements for products in 6.0 (see the Release Notes). It also includes all the products in the previous versions.  Most of the measurements performed by LBNL have BSDF XML files associated with them, which must be available to the WINDOW program in order to simulate the systems.

This version of the CGDB is only compatible with WINDOW 7.4 and 7.3.


Version 6.0 for WINDOW 7.3

The Version 4.0 for WINDOW 7.3 contains new products (see the Release Notes) as well as all the products in Version 2 (generic example data as well as data measured by LBNL of several manufacturers' products, including woven shades and venetian blinds) as well as generic examples of cellular shades.  Most of the measurements performed by LBNL have BSDF XML files associated with them, which must be available to the WINDOW program in order to simulate the systems.

This version of the CGDB is only compatible with WINDOW 7.3.


Version 4.0 for WINDOW 6.3

CGDB Version 4.0 for WINDOW 6.3 only contains Shade Materials and Shading Layer Library records for the ODL Venetian Blinds, in order that NFRC simulators can model products using those blinds in WINDOW 6.3. In the future, when NFRC is using WINDOW 7.3, the CGDB will not be created for WINDOW 6.3.

Most of the measurements performed by LBNL have BSDF XML files associated with them, which must be available to the WINDOW program in order to simulate the systems.

LBNL is still developing the measuring and submittal procedures so that manufacturers can submit measured data for review and inclusion in future CGDB releases. When these procedures are complete, it is hoped that manufacturers will measure and submit data for their products to LBNL for inclusion in the CGDB.
