WINDOW 5 Glass Library Update -- IGDB Version 14.3

Last update:04/16/08 05:18 PM

Note:

IGDB Version 14.3

IGDB Version 14.2 has 5 modified glazings (Guardian). These new glazings will overwrite the old version in the WINDOW5 Glass Library, and you must say "Yes" or "Yes to all" when the program asks whether to overwrite the existing records.

IGDB Version 13.7 has 5 deleted files (NFRC ID 7100 - 7106, see IGDB Release Notes) that must be deleted by the user in the WINDOW5 Glass Library.

The International Glazing Database, used by both Optics5 and WINDOW5, can be used to update your Glass Library in WINDOW 5.

How to Check the Current WINDOW5 IGDB Version:

To determine the latest IGDB versions of the records in the WINDOW5 Glass Library, go to the List View of the Glass Library, click on the "Source" column heading (this forces the records to sort by that field), then scroll to the bottom of the list and see what the last records "Source" field is set to (it will be something like "IGDB v. 12.6").

Updating the Glass Library:
(The instructions below assume WINDOW version 5.2)

To update the WINDOW 5 Glass Library to IGDB 14.3 from 13.9, follow these steps:

bullet Download the WINDOW5-IGDB 14.3 Update Package which is a self-extracting executable called W5-IGDB14.3Update.exe
When you click on the Update Package link above you should see the following dialog box (or a similar File Save / File Download dialog box depending on your operating system and computer setup):

bullet

Click on the Save button and save the self extracting file (W5-IGDB14.3Update.exe) onto your hard drive, into the Program Files\LBNL\LBNL Shared directory, or other directory of your choice

bullet The self extracting zip file contains 1 file -- W5-IGDB14.3Update.mdb. Extract (by clicking on the exe file) the contents into the Program Files\LBNL\LBNL Shared directory. W5-IGDB14.3Update.mdb is a WINDOW5 mdb file (not an IGDB update or Optics file). Therefore, you do NOT have to set the path of the file in the WINDOW5 File/Preferences tab -- you can just import it directly as a WINDOW5 database using the Glass Library Import button (see instructions below).
bullet In WINDOW5, go to the Glass Library List View, click on the Import button.
bullet When the Import dialog box opens, set Format to Window 5 Database (the default) as the format, UNCHECK the "Avoid creating duplicate records" checkbox, and click the Browse button, which will allow you to select the update database file.

Use the Browse button to select the update file, W5-IGDB14.3Update.mdb.

When you have selected the file, click the Open button, which will return you to the Import dialog box, then click the OK button on that screen.

bullet WINDOW5 will open the update database, which contains the IGDB records for versions 14.0 through 14.3. You can sort by IGDB Version by clicking on the "Source" column title, and select the records you want to import into the WINDOW5 Glass Library -- for example, just the 14.3 records if your Glass Library was already current through version 14.2.
bullet Highlight the records to be imported, then click the Select button, which will import those records into the Glass Library. Answer 'Yes to All' to update the records.

bullet Some records will contain records with changed information in the versions (see the IGDB Release Notes), so when the program asks you if you want to overwrite you can say "Yes" or "Yes to all". To verify that the proper records are being updated, you can refer to the IGDB Release Notes for a specific version.
bullet After they are imported, you can see that the records have all been imported by clicking on the Source column. At the very bottom will be the newly imported records.

To update the WINDOW 5 Glass Library from IGDB Version between 13.0 and 13.8, follow these steps:

bullet Download the IGDB 13.9 Update package which is a self-extracting executable, containing 2 files -- the one which is relevant is IGDB Update.mdb.
bullet Self-extract the contents of the downloaded file from into the Program Files\LBNL\LBNL Shared directory
bullet In WINDOW5, in File/Preferences, go to the Optical Data tab, and set the first option, IGDB or IGDBUpdate, to the update database (IGDB Update.mdb) -- you can browse to the file with the browse button (it will be in Program Files\LBNL\LBNL Shared directory based on the instructions above).
bullet In WINDOW5, go to the Glass Library List View, click on the Import button, select IGDB or Optics User Database as the format, and click OK. The program will open the update database set in the File/Preferences dialog box (the name will be displayed at the top of the dialog box) and you will see the glass layers to be imported in to the existing library.
bullet Click the Select All button, which will highlight all the records, then click the Select button, which will import all the records into the Glass Library. Answer 'Yes to All' to update the records.
bullet After they are imported, you can see that the records have all been imported by clicking on the Source column. At the very bottom will be the newly imported records.
bullet NOW, follow the instructions at the top of this web page for updating to 14.0 from 13.9.

To update the WINDOW 5 Glass Library from IGDB previous to 12.7, follow these steps:

bullet Download the full IGDB 14.3 database which is a zip file containing the file glazing.mdb
bullet Delete all the protected (non-User) records in the WINDOW5 Glass Library
bullet Import ALL the records in the full IGDB 14.3 database into the WINDOW5 Glass Library. This will take many minutes, maybe up to an hour.
bullet You may get a message at the end saying "Can't find dominant wavelength for purewhite" -- ignore it (click OK). This is an informational message generated when the program imports ONE.DAT but is not an error.
bullet You can also download the original database W5.mdb that comes with WINDOW 5.2, the version in this zip file is updated to 14.2
