International Glazing Database
Definitions
Specular:
Specular glazings scatter very little light on transmission or reflection.
They may include monolithic glass, coated glass, laminates and applied
films. Any of these material types may also be diffusing if they contain a
diffusing element such as fritted, etched or patterned glass, or a diffuse
interlayer. The reason that such diffusing products cannot be accepted at
this time is because 1) measurement in a spectroradiometer even when
equipped with integrating sphere is prone to error and 2) the algorithms of
Window5 do not support calculation of a series of diffuse elements. New
standards are being developed which will allow the proper measurement of
diffusing materials. Window6 can perform the calculatioins properly but the
program has not yet been approved for rating purposes. We expect to allow
submission of diffuse products somtime in 2008.
