Prototype Vacuum Glazing

Prototype Vacuum Glazing (310K)

This window is an exotic prototype from Australia that uses a strong vacuum between the panes of glass. Low-E coatings and the lack of gas within the window make it a good insulator. The yellow "dots" in the image show where heat is flowing through the small ceramic pillars that hold the panes of glass apart under the pressure of the atmosphere. This window is being cooled on the back side with wind at -17.8°C (0°F).
